Artist's Comments

I've gotten into working out lately, and for some reason this picture formed in my head and wouldn't leave. I wanted something that sort of conveyed that oppressive tiredness you get at the end of a workout, where you're just spent. Staring at the mirror from under your sweaty brows with the blood thumping in your ears, waiting to wrangle that last 3% of your energy for the final set.

I have a version of this without the pencils overlayed on it, which is what I had intended originally, but after looking back and forth between the two, I think the pencils add a good rough, disheveled look that helps the mood of the pic. Plus it covers up a few deficiencies in my coloring. :) Namely that I had wanted it to look smoother and more painted, and less comicy, but I've never really done pieces like that, so I'll take it as it is.

sigh.
This really would have looked so much better as a person... not to bash, but...it really would... :hmm:

my aphorism: comments are like candies. It's nice to get one once in a while, when you're good. But asking for one not only makes you sound greedy but ruins the surprise when you DO get one. Comments are a privilege, not a requirement.

Ah, man... That's awesome. Yeah, I know the feeling. I've been doing failure sets lately [where my last set I just keep doing reps until I literally cannot do any more] and boy, when you're on that last leg, you feel close to something.

The piece looks amazing. His forearms seem a bit too short, but other than that he looks great and the coloring is fantastic.

Did you ever smell the rain, the humidity in the air?
Did you ever feel the pain depending on what you will dare?
The sweetest pain you ever felt, it’s fun and desperation.
Emotions which you cannot steal. Love has no date of expiration.

my2k: My thought on that is if you want to see a human in a similar pose, all you have to do is open up a bodybuilding mag. I think drawings should have either 1) some fanatasy element that can't really be replicated in a photograph or 2) something very stylistic about them. Since I was originally shooting for a fairly realisitic look with this picture (which I failed at on several levels) it's a good thing that it's not just a human. IMO.

Well, regardless to what others think... I love it. It's wonderful. I escpecially love the veins in the hand. Nice work! Coloring is awesome too. :winner:

that is really cool, great job on the muscliture and shading.

Damn Dave, that's really good. You're getting kinda introspective in your old age. :)

Nice! Really eye-catching. Almost all of your proportions are right (hella better than I tend to do).
Only one minor correction (that isn't really noticeable without really looking hard) is that his pelvic area's a bit long. Which I think is what is making his arms look too short (and they sure as blazes aren't; people seem under the impression that elbows go to the waist... nuh-uh =P).
People whinging on it not being a human need a wedgie.
I like the lines. Roughness is goodness. I used to try and make my stuff look "cleaner," then gave up and embraced my inner grunge. :D
