I've gotten into working out lately, and for some reason this picture formed in my head and wouldn't leave. I wanted something that sort of conveyed that oppressive tiredness you get at the end of a workout, where you're just spent. Staring at the mirror from under your sweaty brows with the blood thumping in your ears, waiting to wrangle that last 3% of your energy for the final set.
I have a version of this without the pencils overlayed on it, which is what I had intended originally, but after looking back and forth between the two, I think the pencils add a good rough, disheveled look that helps the mood of the pic. Plus it covers up a few deficiencies in my coloring. Namely that I had wanted it to look smoother and more painted, and less comicy, but I've never really done pieces like that, so I'll take it as it is.
sigh.
This really would have looked so much better as a person... not to bash, but...it really would...

Ah, man... That's awesome. Yeah, I know the feeling. I've been doing failure sets lately [where my last set I just keep doing reps until I literally cannot do any more] and boy, when you're on that last leg, you feel close to something.
The piece looks amazing. His forearms seem a bit too short, but other than that he looks great and the coloring is fantastic.

my2k: My thought on that is if you want to see a human in a similar pose, all you have to do is open up a bodybuilding mag. I think drawings should have either 1) some fanatasy element that can't really be replicated in a photograph or 2) something very stylistic about them. Since I was originally shooting for a fairly realisitic look with this picture (which I failed at on several levels) it's a good thing that it's not just a human. IMO.
Nice! Really eye-catching. Almost all of your proportions are right (hella better than I tend to do).
Only one minor correction (that isn't really noticeable without really looking hard) is that his pelvic area's a bit long. Which I think is what is making his arms look too short (and they sure as blazes aren't; people seem under the impression that elbows go to the waist... nuh-uh ).
People whinging on it not being a human need a wedgie.
I like the lines. Roughness is goodness. I used to try and make my stuff look "cleaner," then gave up and embraced my inner grunge.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
